New Commemorative Coin: Chennai Petroleum Corporation Ltd

The Government of India will issue a ₹60 commemorative coin to mark the Diamond Jubilee (60 Years) of Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited. The Ministry of Finance issued a gazette notification on January 16, 2026, confirming this coin.

Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited (CPCL) is one of India’s major public sector oil refining companies and a key subsidiary of Indian Oil Corporation Limited. Established in 1965 as Madras Refineries Limited, the company operates large refining facilities in Tamil Nadu, primarily at Manali near Chennai. CPCL produces a wide range of petroleum products including petrol, diesel, LPG, kerosene, and aviation fuel, catering to the energy needs of southern India. Over the years, the company has focused on modernization, improved fuel quality, and environmentally sustainable operations. Through its refining excellence and infrastructure development, CPCL continues to play an important role in strengthening India’s energy sector.

The metal composition of the ₹60 coin will consist of a Quaternary Alloy, comprising 50% Silver, 40% Copper, 5% Nickel, and 5% Zinc. The coin will weigh 35 grams and have a diameter of 44 mm, featuring 200 serrations along the edge. The coin's description is as follows.

Obverse: The face of the coin shall bear the Lion Capitol of Ashoka Pillar in the center with the legend "सत्यमेव जयते" inscribed below, flanked on the left periphery with the word “भारत” in Devanagari script and on the right periphery with the word “INDIA” in English. It shall also bear the Rupee symbol “₹” and denominational value “60” in the international numerals below the Lion Capitol.

Reverse: This face of the coin shall bear the emblem of Diamond Jubilee (60 Years) of Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited at the center of the coin. The year “1965-2025” in international numerals shall be inscribed below the emblem. On the upper periphery of the coin, the inscription “चेन्नै पेट्रोलियम कॉर्पोरेशन लिमिटेड” and “पररशोधन उत्कृष्टता के 60 वर्ष” shall be inscribed in Devanagari script. On the lower periphery of the coin, the inscription “60 Years Of Refining Excellence” and “Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited” shall be inscribed in English.
