Kolkata Mint Issues Commemorative Coins in Acrylic Tower Sets

The India Government Mint, Kolkata, has listed several commemorative coins presented in Acrylic Tower Sets. The list is current as of September 19, 2026, and the availability of these sets is subject to limited stock.

At first glance, the Acrylic Tower Sets may appear similar to the Executive Sets issued for certain commemorative coins. However, these are not the same format as the sets provided to dignitaries during the release ceremonies. Unlike the original Executive Tower Sets, these appear to be restrikes prepared again by the India Government Mint, Kolkata.

Executive Sets contain Proof coins and are among the most exclusive presentation formats issued by the India Government Mints. They are generally prepared for presentation to dignitaries, chief guests and other distinguished invitees during official coin-release ceremonies. On rare occasions, a limited number of surplus sets have been made available through India Government Mint sales counters, making them considerably scarcer than regular collector issues presented in folders, booklets, MDF boxes or other standard packaging formats.

Currently, the India Government Mint, Kolkata has issued Acrylic Tower Sets for the ₹150 coin issued in 2013 to mark the 150th Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, priced at ₹12,368, and the recent coloured ₹100 commemorative coin issued in 2025 to mark the 10th Anniversary of Make in India, priced at ₹13,088.

These Acrylic Tower Sets provide an attractive way of displaying the commemorative coins. However, from a numismatic perspective, it would have been even more appealing if the Mint had included the lower denomination from the earlier themes, such as the ₹5 coin issued alongside the ₹150 coin for the 150th Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda.

These sets can be purchased either at the mint premises or through the official website of the India Government Mint.

New Commemorative Coin: Mahanayak Uttam Kumar

The Government of India will issue a ₹100 commemorative coin  as part of the Centenary Celebration of  Mahanayak Uttam Kumar . The Ministry of Finance issued a gazette notification on September 3, 2026, confirming this coin. Mahanayak Uttam Kumar, born Arun Kumar Chatterjee on September 3, 1926, was one of the most celebrated actors in the history of Indian cinema. Revered as the “Mahanayak” of Bengali cinema, he captivated audiences with his remarkable acting, charismatic screen presence and versatility. His unforgettable partnership with Suchitra Sen created some of the most iconic films of Bengali cinema. PM Modi Releases ₹100 Coin on Shri Ram College of Commerce

The Hon'ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, released the ₹100  commemorative coin  to mark the Centenary Year of Shri Ram College of Commerce  (SRCC), University of Delhi, today, on September 5, 2026, during his participation at the college campus in New Delhi, coinciding with Teachers' Day.
