SPMCIL Lists Commemorative Coins in Artwork Frames

The Security Printing and Minting Corporation of India Ltd. (SPMCIL), has issued several commemorative coins presented in specially designed artwork frames, combining numismatic significance with attractive presentation and fine craftsmanship. The list is current as of September 19, 2026, and the availability of these artwork frames are subject to limited availability.

These distinctive framed sets offer collectors a different way of preserving and displaying commemorative coins, incorporating the coin with specially prepared artwork related to the theme being commemorated.

The combination of an officially issued commemorative coin, thematic artwork and an elegant presentation frame makes these sets particularly appealing to collectors. Unlike the regular Proof Sets or Uncirculated Sets issued by the India Government Mints, these artwork frame sets appear to have been produced in extremely limited quantities and were primarily intended as special presentation pieces rather than as widely available commercial products. Consequently, they are considerably rarer and, when they occasionally appear in the collectors' market, can command substantial prices.

The commemorative themes currently listed include the following:

150 Years of Vande Mataram

₹150

₹18,600

150th Birth Anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel

₹150 x 2

₹20,286

Mother Teresa Birth Centenary

₹100 x 2

₹20,286

These sets were reportedly produced in extremely limited quantities, in some cases with only a handful of pieces being prepared for a particular commemorative occasion. A significant portion of the production was understood to have been supplied to the Ministry and other government authorities for presentation to dignitaries, distinguished guests and officials. This presentation-oriented distribution further explains their scarcity among private collectors today.

These artwork frames can be purchased either at the SPMCIL Delhi Sales Counter, or through the official website of the India Government Mint.
