2025 - Acharya Shri Vidyanand Ji Maharaj | Commemorative Coin

The 13th commemorative coin of 2025 was released to mark the Birth Centenary of Acharya Shri Vidyanand Ji Maharaj.

Acharya Shri 108 Vidyanand Ji Maharaj, also known as Shwetpichchacharya, was one of the most respected figures in the Digambara Jain tradition. Born as Surendra Kumar on April 22, 1925, in Shedbal, Karnataka, he was drawn to spirituality from an early age. After his initial education at the Shantisagar Ashram in his hometown, he felt a strong calling towards the ascetic life. Despite being engaged in agriculture and daily responsibilities, his spiritual aspirations led him to take Kshullak Diksha on April 15, 1946, in Tumadaddi, Karnataka. He was later initiated as a Muni by Acharya Shri 108 Deshbhushan Ji Maharaj on July 25, 1943.

Acharya Vidyanand Ji dedicated his life to the rigorous practice of Jain asceticism, philosophical study, and the upliftment of the Jain community. His exemplary discipline and mastery over scriptures led to his elevation as an Acharya on November 17, 1978, in Delhi. Just a year later, he was honored with the prestigious title “Siddhant Chakravarti” in Indore on November 6, 1979, a title given to those with unmatched command over Jain philosophy and doctrinal wisdom.

He played a monumental role in revitalizing Jain religious practices, initiating numerous projects related to temple construction, idol installations, and cultural preservation. Some of the key contributions under his leadership include the development of Jain sites in Gommatgiri (Indore), Firozabad (Uttar Pradesh), and Bawangaja (Madhya Pradesh). One of his most celebrated contributions was his involvement in organizing the Mahamastakabhisheka of the sacred Gommateshwara Bahubali statue at Shravanabelagola, a major event in Jain religious life.

Acharya Vidyanand Ji was deeply revered for his clarity in conveying complex spiritual ideas in simple language, making Jain teachings accessible to all. He was a spiritual beacon who inspired countless followers through his unwavering commitment to non-violence, truth, celibacy, and renunciation. His life was an embodiment of Jain values, and even in his final years, he remained active in guiding devotees and spreading awareness of Jain dharma.

His passing marked the end of a spiritual era, but his legacy continues to inspire generations. Acharya Vidyanand Ji Maharaj remains a towering figure in modern Jain history, remembered for his scholarship, devotion, and tireless service to the path of liberation.
