2023 - Cricket World Cup 2023 | Mint Souvenir Token

The India Government Mint, Kolkata, initially issued the coloured commemorative souvenir token in 2023 to mark Cricket World Cup 2023. However, it was unexpectedly withdrawn, and the reasons for this withdrawal remain undisclosed.

The 2023 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup was the 13th edition of the quadrennial One Day International (ODI) cricket tournament organised by the International Cricket Council (ICC). Hosted exclusively by India, the tournament was held from October 5 to November 19, 2023, bringing together the world's leading cricketing nations.

Ten national teams participated in the tournament: Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, Netherlands, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa and Sri Lanka. These teams secured their places through the 2023 Cricket World Cup qualification process. Notably, the West Indies failed to qualify for the tournament for the first time in the history of the men's Cricket World Cup. England entered the competition as the defending champions, having won the 2019 edition after defeating New Zealand in a thrilling final.

The 2023 tournament marked the first time that India hosted the men's Cricket World Cup entirely on its own. Previously, India had co-hosted the tournament with other countries on the Indian subcontinent in 1987, 1996 and 2011. Matches were played across ten stadiums in different cities, showcasing India's passion for cricket and providing a grand stage for the tournament.

The two semi-finals were played at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai and Eden Gardens in Kolkata, while the final was held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on November 19, 2023. The tournament attracted enormous interest from cricket fans across India and around the world.

The competition featured several memorable performances and closely contested matches throughout the group stage and knockout rounds. India remained unbeaten during the league stage and reached the final, where they faced Australia.

In the final, Australia defeated India by six wickets to win their sixth ICC Men's Cricket World Cup title. Travis Head played a decisive innings and was named Player of the Match, while India's campaign, despite ending in defeat, was one of the highlights of the tournament.

The bookings commenced on August 4, 2026, and the set is being offered in limited quantities.
