2023 - India's G20 Presidency | Commemorative Coin
The 10th commemorative coin of 2023 was released to mark the India's G20 Presidency.
India’s G20 Presidency marked a historic chapter in the nation’s diplomatic journey, showcasing its leadership, cultural depth, and commitment to inclusive global development. Assuming the presidency on 1 December 2022 for the first time since the G20’s inception, India brought a distinctive vision under the theme “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam – One Earth, One Family, One Future.” Rooted in ancient Indian wisdom, this theme emphasized the interconnectedness of humanity and the need for collective action to address global challenges.
During its presidency, India convened more than 200 meetings across 60 cities, bringing the global dialogue closer to people and fostering a spirit of participation across regions. This unprecedented level of engagement not only highlighted India’s diversity but also reinforced the principle that global decision-making must be inclusive and accessible. The presidency focused on key priorities such as sustainable development, resilient global supply chains, digital transformation, climate action, green energy, women-led development, and reforms in multilateral institutions.
A landmark achievement of India’s G20 Presidency was the unanimous adoption of the New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration, which demonstrated consensus at a time of global uncertainty. The declaration underscored commitments to climate finance, sustainable lifestyles, global digital public infrastructure, and inclusive growth. India’s advocacy for the Global South culminated in the historic inclusion of the African Union as a permanent member of the G20, reflecting the country’s efforts to make global governance more equitable.
Another notable contribution was India’s promotion of Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) as a model for global progress. Platforms such as UPI, Aadhaar, CoWIN, and DigiLocker were presented as scalable solutions for enhancing financial inclusion, healthcare delivery, and public services. India also championed the concept of LiFE – Lifestyle for Environment, encouraging nations to adopt environmentally conscious habits and policies.
The G20 Presidency was not only about diplomacy but also about cultural celebration. India showcased its heritage, arts, cuisines, and traditions at every event, transforming the presidency into a nationwide festival of global dialogue. The participation of youth, civil society, startups, and women entrepreneurs created a new narrative of people-led diplomacy.
