2024 - Mysore Medical College and Research Institute | Commemorative Coin
A commemorative coin of ₹100 will be issued to mark the Centenary Celebration of Mysore Medical College and Research Institute. The Ministry of Finance has issued the gazette notification on November 25, 2024.
Established in 1924, Mysore Medical College and Research Institute (MMC&RI) is one of India’s oldest and most prestigious medical institutions. Located in the historic city of Mysuru, Karnataka, the institute has a rich legacy of academic excellence and service to society. Founded by the Maharaja of Mysore, Krishnaraja Wadiyar IV, MMC&RI was the first medical college in Karnataka and among the earliest in India, playing a pivotal role in shaping medical education in the region.
The institute offers undergraduate (MBBS), postgraduate, and super-specialty courses, fostering a culture of research and clinical expertise. Affiliated with the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), MMC&RI is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, including advanced laboratories, a modern library, and well-structured departments across various specialties.
The attached hospitals, such as K.R. Hospital and Cheluvamba Hospital, provide hands-on clinical training to students and cater to the healthcare needs of thousands of patients, particularly those from underserved communities.
