2022 - Men's T20 World Cup | Mint Souvenir Token

The India Government Mint, Kolkata, issued its second coloured silver souvenir token in 2022 to mark the T20 World Cup. This marked the first cricket-themed souvenir token issued by an India Government Mint.

The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 was the eighth edition of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, held in Australia from October 16 to November 13, 2022. The tournament brought together leading cricketing nations in the shortest format of international cricket, combining fast-paced matches with a global celebration of the sport.

The tournament featured 16 teams, with the preliminary round followed by the Super 12 stage, semi-finals, and final. Matches were played across several Australian venues, including Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide, Brisbane, Perth, Geelong, and Hobart.

England emerged as the champions after defeating Pakistan by five wickets in the final at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on November 13, 2022. Chasing Pakistan's total of 137, England reached the target with an over to spare. Sam Curran was named Player of the Match and also received the Player of the Tournament award for his outstanding all-round performance.

The tournament also produced several memorable individual performances. Virat Kohli of India was the leading run-scorer, finishing with 296 runs, while his unbeaten 82 against Pakistan in the Super 12 match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground became one of the most celebrated innings of the tournament.

The 2022 edition was particularly significant for India, which reached the semi-finals after finishing at the top of its Super 12 group. India defeated Pakistan in a dramatic opening match before progressing through the group stage. In the semi-final at Adelaide, however, India were defeated by England.

The T20 World Cup represents the remarkable international growth of Twenty20 cricket, a format that has transformed the sport through its shorter duration, energetic atmosphere, and appeal to audiences around the world. The tournament has become one of the most prominent events in international cricket.

The bookings commenced on August 4, 2026, and the set is being offered in limited quantities. The Make in India ₹100  coloured commemorative coin , India's first-ever coloured coin, was released by the Hon'ble Union Minister for Commerce and Industry, Shri Piyush Goyal, on September 20, 2025, to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the flagship Make in India initiative.
