The India Government Mint, Hyderabad, issued a commemorative souvenir token in 2015 featuring the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) and the iconic Ananda Nilayam.

The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) is an independent trust that manages the famous Sri Venkateswara Temple at Tirumala, one of the most revered pilgrimage centres in India. Dedicated to Lord Venkateswara, a manifestation of Lord Vishnu, the temple attracts millions of devotees every year from across India and around the world.

The temple is located on the Tirumala Hills in Andhra Pradesh and is renowned for its ancient traditions, architecture, rituals, and rich cultural heritage. TTD is responsible for the administration of the temple and its associated religious and charitable institutions, as well as facilities for pilgrims.

At the heart of the temple complex is Ananda Nilayam, the sacred golden-roofed structure situated above the main sanctum (Garbha Griha) of the Sri Venkateswara Temple. The name Ananda Nilayam means “Abode of Bliss”, reflecting the spiritual significance of the sanctum where Lord Venkateswara is worshipped.

The distinctive golden vimana, known as the Ananda Nilaya Vimana, is one of the most recognisable features of the Tirumala temple. The gilded structure rises above the sanctum and forms an important part of the temple's architectural and religious identity.

The history of the Tirumala temple extends over many centuries, with successive dynasties and rulers contributing to its development and patronage. The Pallavas, Cholas, Pandyas, Vijayanagara rulers and later patrons played important roles in the temple's growth. Among them, the Vijayanagara emperor Sri Krishnadevaraya is particularly remembered for his contributions to the temple.

TTD's activities extend well beyond temple administration. It manages numerous educational, medical, cultural, and charitable institutions, reflecting its broader role in religious and social service. TTD also supports the preservation of traditional music, literature, Sanskrit learning, and other aspects of Indian cultural heritage. The temple is also famous for its Tirupati Laddu, offered as prasadam to devotees. The preparation and distribution of prasadam form an important part of the pilgrimage experience.

The combination of the sacred temple, the iconic Ananda Nilayam Vimana, centuries of history, and TTD's continuing religious and charitable activities makes Tirumala and Ananda Nilayam an enduring symbol of India's spiritual and cultural heritage.
