Identical Sizes, Different Values: The Coin Recognition Problem

The new coin series was expected to include tactile features for easier recognition, but with overlapping sizes may still pose challenges for the visually impaired. However, when comparing the older ₹1 coin, the existing ₹2 coin, and the newly launched ₹5 coin, it becomes apparent that all three share the same 25 mm diameter and have nearly identical thickness, making physical distinction challenging. The last issuance of the 25 mm ₹1 coin dates back to 2004, while the ₹2 coin with the same diameter continued to be minted until 2019. With the introduction of the new coin series—particularly the new ₹5 coin—circulation now includes multiple denominations using the same size profile, creating an overlap and potential confusion for both the visually impaired and the general public. Mumbai Mint Opens Bookings for 'First Flag Hosting Day' Coin

The India Government Mint, Mumbai, has opened the bookings for the much-awaited ₹75  commemorative coin  issued to mark  First Flag Hoisting Day . The bookings are open from December 12, 2019, and will continue until January 15, 2020. Earlier on December 30, 2018, the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, along with the Lt. Governor of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Shri Devendra Kumar Joshi, unveiled the ₹75 coin and a special postage stamp to mark the 75th anniversary of the historic moment when Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose first hoisted the Tricolour at Port Blair in 1943. The ₹75 coin is currently priced at ₹2,830 for the Proof Set and ₹2,655 for the UNC Set, which comes in a folder or blister packaging. These coin sets are available for purchase either at the Mint Premises or through the official website of the India Government Mint. President Releases ₹250 Coin on 250th Session of Rajya Sabha

A ₹250 commemorative coin and a postal stamp marking the historic 250th Session of the Rajya Sabha were released by the Hon’ble President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind, in the presence of Vice President Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Om Birla, and Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Shri Prahlad Joshi. New Commemorative Coin: 250th Session of Rajya Sabha

The Government of India will issue a ₹250  commemorative coin  to mark the ' 250th Session of Rajya Sabha '. The Ministry of Finance issued the gazette notification on November 08, 2019, confirming the coin. In the midst of challenges, with leaders of the ruling coalition questioning its relevance and branding it obstructionist, the Rajya Sabha is poised to commemorate its 250th session in November-December this year. The  metal composition  of the ₹250 coin will consist of Pure Silver (99.9%). The coin will weigh 40 grams and have a diameter of 44 mm, featuring 200 serrations along the edge. The coin's description is as follows. Obverse:  The face of the coin shall bear the Lion Capitol of Ashoka Pillar in the center with the legend "सत्यमेव जयते" inscribed below, flanked on the left periphery with the word “भारत” in Devanagari script and on the right periphery with the word “INDIA” in English. The Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today unveiled a ₹550 commemorative coin to mark the 550th Birth Anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji at Gurdaspur, Punjab.
