Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman Releases ₹125 Coin on Paramahansa Yogananda
The Union Minister for Finance & Corporate Affairs Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, released a ₹125 commemorative coin to mark the 125th Birth Anniversary of Paramahansa Yogananda at a special ceremony held in New Delhi on October 29, 2019.
The event was graced by several distinguished guests, including the Minister of State for Finance & Corporate Affairs, Shri Anurag Thakur, Secretary of the Ministry of Culture Shri Arun Goel, Swami Vishwananda Giri, Swami Smaranananda Giri, and numerous monks and devotees associated with the Yogoda Satsanga Society of India.
During her address, the Finance Minister expressed profound reverence for Paramahansa Yogananda, describing the moment as a great honour for her. She praised Yogananda as a “great son of India” whose teachings transcended borders long before modern communication made global outreach possible. She highlighted his universal message of inner harmony, self-realization, and unity among humankind, noting that his divine presence—reflected in his serene and penetrating gaze—continues to inspire millions around the world. She further added that India takes immense pride in honouring a spiritual figure who has touched hearts across continents.
Shri Anurag Thakur also acknowledged Paramahansa Yogananda’s global legacy and the significance of issuing a commemorative coin in his memory.
This release marks the sixth commemorative coin of 2019, minted by India Government Mint, Kolkata. The bookings are expected to open soon on the India Government Mint's website and will be updated in the current and upcoming bookings section.
