New Commemorative Coin: Guru Nanak Dev

The Government of India is planning to celebrate the 550th Birth Anniversary of Sikh Guru - Guru Nanak Dev Ji, with the possibility of issuing commemorative coin to mark this occasion in 2019.


Guru Nanak (15 April 1469 – 22 September 1539) was the revered founder of Sikhism and the initial among the ten Sikh Gurus. His birth is celebrated globally as Guru Nanak Gurpurab on Kartik Pooranmashi, the full-moon day in the month of Katak, occurring in October–November.

This insightful information was shared by Mr. Sanjay Kansal, a numismatist, contributing to the knowledge and assistance of the collector community.

Furthermore, there are other potential coin releases in the pipeline, including the Birth Centenary of Dr. M G Ramachandran and the 350th Prakash Utsav of Shri Guru Gobind Singh.
