PM Modi Releases ₹100 Coin of Smt. Vijaya Raje Scindia

The Hon'ble Prime Minister released a ₹100 commemorative coin on Smt. Vijaya Raje Scindia during a virtual ceremony marking her birth centenary on October 12, 2020.

Speaking on the occasion, the Prime Minister said that Rajmata Vijaya Raje Scindia was a decisive leader and skilled administrator who guided India in the right direction. Having witnessed key phases of Indian politics—from the burning of foreign clothes to the Emergency and the Ram Temple movement—her life, he said, must be known to the younger generation.

He noted that Rajmata taught that public service does not require birth in a particular family, only love for the nation and a democratic spirit. Despite great privilege, she chose to dedicate herself to the common people and remained deeply committed to public service throughout her life. She never sought position or prestige, often declining posts, including when Atalji and Advaniji encouraged her to become the president of the Jana Sangh.

The Prime Minister remembered her humility, her ability to connect personally with workers, and her spiritual nature. He said that thanks to public awareness and mass movements, many positive changes have taken place in the country—progress inspired by leaders like Rajmata. Today, as India’s Nari Shakti rises and leads in various fields, the Government’s initiatives continue to fulfil her vision of women’s empowerment.

He added that it is a remarkable coincidence that the Ramjanmabhoomi temple dream she championed has been realised in her birth centenary year. He concluded that the success of Atmanirbhar Bharat will help achieve her vision of a strong and prosperous India.

This release marks the first commemorative coin for the year 2020, minted by India Government Mint, Kolkata. The bookings are expected to open soon on the India Government Mint's website and will be updated in the current and upcoming bookings section.
