Shri Arjun Meghwal Releases ₹150 coin of Shrimad Vijay Vallabh Suri

The Minister of State for Culture Shri Arjun Meghwal released the ₹150 commemorative coin along with the postage stamp on occasion of 153rd Birth Anniversary of Shrimad Vijay Vallabh Suri at Vallabh Smarak Jain Mandir Tirth, on October 26, 2022 at New Delhi.

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, addressed the gathering on the occasion of the 150th birth anniversary of Shri Vijay Vallabh Surishwar Ji via video message today. He paid homage to the bearers of the saint tradition in India and to followers of the Jain faith worldwide, recalling his experiences listening to Santvani in Vadodara and Kanwat village in Gujarat.

Shri Modi noted that the commemorative postage stamp and ₹100 coin dedicated to Acharya Shri Vijay Vallabh Surishwar Ji were released to connect the masses with his life philosophy and spiritual teachings. He appreciated the two-year-long celebrations, which promoted faith, spirituality, patriotism, and national unity.

Highlighting the relevance of Acharya Ji’s teachings in today’s world, the Prime Minister remarked that amid crises of war, terror, and violence, the principles of non-violence, renunciation, and peace as lived by Acharya Ji offer guidance for global harmony. He drew parallels between Acharya Ji’s philosophy of aparigraha and Mahatma Gandhi’s principles during the freedom struggle, emphasizing restraint and detachment.

Shri Modi also reflected on Gujarat’s contributions to India, noting the symbolic connection between the Statue of Peace and the Statue of Unity, representing spiritual and national unity. He highlighted Acharya Ji’s emphasis on promoting indigenous products and Khadi, linking spiritual values with economic self-reliance, especially relevant during Azadi ka Amritkaal.

The Prime Minister urged followers of Acharya Ji to continue expanding traditions of social welfare, education, and public service, and encouraged them to support initiatives like ‘Vocal for Local’ by trading in Indian-made goods. Concluding, Shri Modi praised Acharya Ji’s guidance as a path of progress, inspiring future generations to uphold his teachings of spirituality, unity, and self-reliance.

The ₹150 commemorative coin is a must-have for collectors, as it represents the Jain community. The bookings are expected to open soon on the India Government Mint's website and will be updated in the current and upcoming bookings section.
