New Possible Commemorative Coin: Kargil Vijay Diwas

The Government of India is likely to issue a commemorative coin to mark the Silver Jubilee of Kargil Vijay Diwas.

Kargil Vijay Diwas is celebrated in India to commemorate the country's victory over Pakistan in the Kargil War of 1999, which resulted in the successful ousting of Pakistani forces from their occupied positions on the mountain tops of the northern Kargil district in Ladakh. Observed annually on July 26, this day honors the brave soldiers who fought in the conflict. Celebrations take place across India, with significant events in the national capital, New Delhi, where the Prime Minister pays homage to the soldiers at Amar Jawan Jyoti at India Gate.

A year-long program, which began last year, will conclude on July 26, 2024. Various events and initiatives across the nation will honor the martyrs and reinforce the commitment to national security. This program serves as a reminder of the strategic, tactical, and operational challenges faced during the war and the resilience of the armed forces in overcoming them.

A commemorative coin with a denomination of ₹25 or ₹100 is likely to be issued. However, the release of the coin will only be confirmed after the issuance of a gazette notification from the Ministry of Finance.

There are also other possible commemorative coins that might be issued. Stay tuned to this blog for further updates.
