Shri Ashish Shelar Releases ₹100 Coin on Legendary Singer Md Rafi

The Hon’ble Minister of Cultural Affairs and Information Technology of Maharashtra, Shri Ashish Shelar, released the ₹100 commemorative coin to mark the centenary celebration of the legendary singer Mohammed Rafi at Sri Shanmukhananda Chandrasekarendra Saraswati Auditorium, Mumbai, on March 24, 2025.

Mohammed Rafi, one of India’s most celebrated playback singers, mesmerized generations with his soulful voice and unmatched versatility. From classical melodies to patriotic anthems, romantic ballads to qawwalis, his songs remain timeless, evoking deep emotions even today. His contribution to Indian music is unparalleled, and this commemorative coin is a fitting tribute to his extraordinary legacy.

Shri Ashish Shelar stated, "I had the honour of releasing the coin today at the 'Tum Mujhe Yun Bhula Na Paoge' event organized by the Shri Shanmukhanand Fine Art and Sangeet Sabha Sanstha in Mumbai. My heartfelt gratitude to Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi for giving me the opportunity to be a part of this historic moment," in his tweet.

Numismatic collectors have been eagerly anticipating this coin, not only as a tribute to the legendary Mohammed Rafi but also as a valuable addition to their collections. With his timeless legacy and widespread admiration, this commemorative release is expected to generate significant interest among both collectors and music enthusiasts.

This marks the sixth commemorative coin release of 2025, minted by the India Government Mint, Kolkata. The bookings for the coin are expected to open soon on the India Government Mint's website, with updates to be provided in the current and upcoming bookings section.
