Chenab Bridge ₹100 Coin Release by PM Modi Postponed

The much-awaited release of the ₹100 commemorative coin by Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, marking the commissioning of the Jammu–Srinagar Railway Line and featuring the iconic Chenab Bridge, scheduled for April 19, has been postponed due to adverse weather conditions.

The Prime Minister was set to inaugurate the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Project (USBRL), including the world’s tallest Chenab Rail Bridge and the Anji Khad Bridge, as well as flag off a special Kashmir edition of the Vande Bharat Express from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra Railway Station to Srinagar.

"The proposed visit of the Prime Minister to Jammu and Kashmir stands postponed. Grateful for necessary action," read the notification issued by the Director of the Special Protection Group (SPG), which was unfortunately leaked online. Such classified communications are never meant to be disclosed publicly due to security reasons, especially those concerning the movement of VVIPs.

The Chenab Bridge, standing at a height of 467 metres, is 35 metres taller than the Eiffel Tower and is engineered to endure earthquakes of up to magnitude 8. Its construction in a high-seismic zone posed significant structural and logistical challenges.

The new dates for the inauguration and commemorative coin release are tentatively scheduled for the end of April. This page will be updated as soon as an official announcement is made.
