AIRRBEA Proposes Commemorative Coin for Golden Jubilee of RRB

The Golden Jubilee of the Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) marks 50 years of dedicated service to rural India. The All India Regional Rural Bank Employees Association (AIRRBEA) has requested the release of a commemorative coin and postal stamp to honour RRBs’ contribution to financial inclusion and rural development.

AIRRBEA has formally written to the Hon’ble Finance Minister, Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, on September 25, 2025, seeking the issuance of a commemorative coin and a postal stamp.

Since October 2, 2024, the Association has been actively organising seminars, meetings, and functions as part of the Golden Jubilee celebrations. The formal inauguration was held at Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh, and was graced by Union Minister Shri Ram Mohan Naidu. In addition, AIRRBEA’s 15th All India Conference took place in February 2025 at Ballari, Karnataka, with the primary theme centered on celebrating 50 years of RRBs. On this occasion, India Post released a special postal cover to acknowledge the banks’ remarkable contribution.

Over the past five decades, RRBs have stood as a strong pillar of rural development and financial empowerment, extending banking services to rural and semi-urban areas. Today, they cater to over 40 crore customers across India, making their role in the country’s growth story both significant and undeniable.

In its appeal, AIRRBEA emphasised that the issuance of a commemorative coin and postal stamp would be a fitting recognition of RRBs’ successful journey. Such a gesture would not only honour their past achievements but also inspire continued dedication toward rural progress and inclusive banking.

The Golden Jubilee is more than just an anniversary—it is a tribute to five decades of service, growth, and resilience demonstrated by RRBs. If approved, the proposal includes issuing a ₹50 commemorative coin to mark the occasion.

The Government of India has previously honoured institutions through commemorative coins, including the 200 years of State Bank of India with ₹100 and ₹5 coins in 2006, the Centenary Year of Karnataka Bank with a ₹100 coin in 2024, and the SBI Main Branch Building Centenary with a ₹100 coin in 2024. Similarly, coins were issued to mark the Reserve Bank of India’s Golden Jubilee in 1985, Platinum Jubilee in 2010, and its 90th anniversary in 2024.

At present, this remains a preliminary update, as any commemorative coin can only be confirmed after the Ministry of Finance issues a gazette notification. Enthusiasts will now have to wait and see whether AIRRBEA’s request receives approval, as such a coin would serve as an enduring symbol of the invaluable contribution of RRBs to India’s financial landscape. For now, it has been placed under the possible and confirmed themes section.
