Kolkata Mint Opens Reissue Bookings for More Coin Sets

The India Government Mint, Kolkata has opened bookings for a few more commemorative coin sets that were originally issued on earlier occasions and are now being offered as reissues. Bookings commenced on July 23, 2026, and are subject to limited availability.

The newly listed reissues include the ₹100 Proof Coin Set issued in honour of Sant Shiromani Jainacharya Vidyasagar Mahamuniraj, priced at ₹8,279 in Folder (Blister) packaging, and the ₹60 Proof Coin Set issued to mark the Diamond Jubilee of Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, priced at ₹8,374 in Booklet packaging.

It is worth noting that the MDF box packaging for both commemorative themes was never offered through the India Government Mint's official website. However, the Jainacharya Vidyasagar ji's coin was distributed in an MDF presentation box during its official release function through the proponent organisation.

The BITS Pilani coin also appears to have been prepared in MDF box packaging, as the BITS Pilani team had advertised this version prior to the release function. However, none appear to have reached collectors.

Another notable omission is the Pure Silver variant of the ₹100 coin issued for the Seva Teerth Complex, released in February 2026, which has still not been made available for booking by the India Government Mint, Kolkata. The mint appears to be prioritising the reissue of previously released commemorative themes before opening bookings for some of the more recent issues.

Collectors should also note that the pricing of several of these reissued commemorative coin sets is relatively high, particularly when compared with the secondary market, where a number of these Folder-packaged sets are currently available at lower prices.

In numismatic terminology, a restrike is a coin newly struck using the original design and dies after the original period of issue has ended. A reissue, on the other hand, is a broader term that may refer either to a newly struck coin or to previously struck, unsold stock that is offered again, sometimes in different packaging or presentation formats.

India has taken another significant step towards the possible introduction of polymer banknotes with Bharatiya Reserve Bank Note Mudran Private Limited (BRBNMPL) issuing a Global Expression of Interest (EOI) on July, 17 2026 for the manufacture and supply of opacified polymer substrate sheets with advanced security features. Mumbai Mint Opens Bookings for Rajendra Chola I Coin Sets

The India Government Mint, Mumbai, has opened the bookings for the ₹1000 commemorative coin issued to mark the 1000 Years of Naval Expedition of Emperor Rajendra Chola I . The bookings are open from August 26, 2025, and it is subject to limited availability. Earlier, on July 27, 2025, the Hon'ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, unveiled a ₹1000 commemorative coin during his visit to Gangaikonda Cholapuram in Ariyalur district. The event was attended by the Hon'ble Governor of Tamil Nadu, Shri R.N. Ravi, the Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs, Dr. L.
