Shri Prataprao Jadhav Urges ₹150 Coin on Sant Gajanan Maharaj

The Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for the Ministry of Ayush and Minister of State for Health & Family Welfare, Shri Prataprao Jadhav, has urged the Government of India to issue a ₹150 commemorative coin and a commemorative postage stamp to mark the 150th Prakat Din of Shri Sant Gajanan Maharaj.

Shri Sant Gajanan Maharaj is one of Maharashtra's most revered saints, believed to have first appeared at Shegaon in Buldhana district on February 23, 1878. Revered for his teachings of devotion, compassion, humility, and selfless service, his life and miracles are recorded in the sacred text Shri Gajanan Vijay. Today, Shegaon is a major pilgrimage centre, while the Shri Gajanan Maharaj Sansthan carries forward his legacy through education, healthcare, and social welfare initiatives.

In separate letters addressed to Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, Union Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern Region Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, and Union Minister for Culture and Tourism Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Shri Jadhav requested the respective Ministries to consider the proposal and initiate the necessary action.

The Minister stated that Sant Gajanan Maharaj's teachings continue to inspire millions and highlighted the contributions of Shri Gajanan Maharaj Sansthan, Shegaon, in education, healthcare, rural development, and humanitarian service. He said the proposed commemorative coin and postage stamp would serve as a fitting national tribute to the saint's enduring spiritual legacy.

Expressing confidence in the proposal, Shri Jadhav hoped it would receive favourable consideration and provide national recognition to Shri Sant Gajanan Maharaj. The 150th Prakat Din of the saint will be observed on February 17, 2028.

It is to be noted that, as of today, nine commemorative themes have been gazette-notified by the Ministry of Finance and are still awaiting release, with some pending for more than a year. These can be referred to on the possibility and upcoming coins page. Meanwhile, bookings for the Pure Silver variant of the Seva Teerth commemorative coin, released in February 2026, have not yet opened at the India Government Mint, Kolkata.

India has taken another significant step towards the possible introduction of polymer banknotes with Bharatiya Reserve Bank Note Mudran Private Limited (BRBNMPL) issuing a Global Expression of Interest (EOI) on July, 17 2026 for the manufacture and supply of opacified polymer substrate sheets with advanced security features. The initiative is aimed at identifying experienced domestic and international manufacturers capable of producing high-security polymer substrates suitable for printing Indian banknotes. Mumbai Mint Opens Bookings for Rajendra Chola I Coin Sets

The India Government Mint, Mumbai, has opened the bookings for the ₹1000 commemorative coin issued to mark the 1000 Years of Naval Expedition of Emperor Rajendra Chola I . The bookings are open from August 26, 2025, and it is subject to limited availability. Earlier, on July 27, 2025, the Hon'ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, unveiled a ₹1000 commemorative coin during his visit to Gangaikonda Cholapuram in Ariyalur district.
