2022 - Ganesh & Lakshmi (Mumbai Mint) | Mint Souvenir Token

The India Government Mint, Mumbai, issued the souvenir token featuring Lord Ganesh and Goddess Lakshmi to mark the occasion of Diwali.

Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi hold a special place in Hindu tradition and are especially worshipped together during Diwali, the festival of lights. Their worship symbolises the combination of wisdom, prosperity, good fortune, and auspicious beginnings.

Lord Ganesha, the elephant-headed deity, is revered as the remover of obstacles and the god of wisdom, knowledge, and auspicious beginnings. Devotees traditionally seek his blessings before starting important activities, believing that his grace brings success and helps overcome difficulties.

Goddess Lakshmi is revered as the Goddess of wealth, prosperity, fortune, abundance, and well-being. During Diwali, homes and businesses are cleaned and decorated with lamps and rangoli, and special prayers are offered to Goddess Lakshmi to invite prosperity and happiness.

The worship of Ganesha and Lakshmi together has a deeper significance. Ganesha represents wisdom and the removal of obstacles, while Lakshmi represents prosperity and abundance. Their combined worship conveys the belief that wealth is best accompanied by wisdom, good judgment, and responsible conduct.

The association of the two deities is particularly prominent during Diwali Lakshmi Puja. Devotees offer flowers, sweets, fruits, lamps, and other offerings while seeking blessings for prosperity, peace, and success in the coming year.

Their imagery is also widely represented in Indian art, religious decorations, festive products, and commemorative issues. The depiction of Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi together captures the auspicious spirit of Diwali and its message of light, prosperity, and new beginnings.
