2018 - Shri Saibaba Samadhi Centenary | Mint Souvenir Token

The India Government Mint, Mumbai, issued a commemorative souvenir token in 2018 to mark the Centenary year of Shri Sai Baba’s Samadhi.

Shri Sai Baba of Shirdi was a revered spiritual master and saint who lived in Shirdi, Maharashtra, during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. His life and teachings emphasised faith, compassion, selfless service, charity, and harmony among people of different religions and communities.

Sai Baba is believed to have arrived in Shirdi as a young man and spent most of his life there. He lived a simple and humble life, often staying at the village mosque known as Dwarkamai. Although he was associated with both Hindu and Islamic traditions, his teachings transcended religious boundaries and focused on devotion to God and the welfare of humanity.

His most widely remembered teachings are “Shraddha” (faith) and “Saburi” (patience). He encouraged his devotees to maintain faith in the Divine, practise patience during difficulties, help those in need, and treat all people with kindness and respect. He also emphasised the importance of charity, humility, forgiveness, and service to others.

Sai Baba regularly distributed food and encouraged people to share with the poor and needy. The sacred fire, or Dhuni, that he maintained at Dwarkamai continues to hold great significance for his devotees. His life demonstrated that spirituality could be expressed through simple acts of love, service, and compassion rather than through religious distinctions.

Sai Baba attained Samadhi on October 15, 1918, at Shirdi. His mortal remains were placed at the Samadhi Mandir, which has since become one of India's most important pilgrimage centres. Millions of devotees visit Shirdi every year to seek his blessings and experience the spiritual atmosphere associated with his life and teachings.

The centenary of Sai Baba’s Samadhi was observed in 2018, marking 100 years since his passing. His enduring message of faith, patience, equality, and universal brotherhood continues to inspire devotees across India and around the world.
