2022 - Statue of Unity: Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav | Mint Souvenir Token

The India Government Mint, Mumbai, in association with Augmont, issued a gold souvenir token featuring the Statue of Unity of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, marking 75 Years of Independence as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations.

The Statue of Unity, dedicated to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, is one of India's most prominent national landmarks. Located at Ekta Nagar in Gujarat, near the Sardar Sarovar Dam on the Narmada River, the monument honours Patel's remarkable contribution to the integration of the princely states and the political unification of India after Independence.

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, popularly known as the Iron Man of India, served as India's first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister. Through his leadership, determination, and diplomatic skills, he played a crucial role in bringing hundreds of princely states into the Indian Union. His contribution to the unity and integrity of the country remains an important part of India's history.

The Statue of Unity was inaugurated on October 31, 2018, on the occasion of Patel's 143rd birth anniversary. Standing at a height of 182 metres, it is the world's tallest statue and has become a major symbol of national unity and pride. The monument, along with the surrounding Ekta Nagar development, has emerged as an important destination for visitors from across India and around the world.

The monument also became closely associated with the celebrations of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the Government of India's nationwide programme commemorating 75 years of Independence. The celebrations were launched in 2021 and continued through 2023, highlighting India's achievements, heritage, culture, and the contributions of freedom fighters and national leaders. 

The Statue of Unity served as a fitting representation of the spirit of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's contribution to national integration and his vision of a united India closely reflected the central message of unity, national pride, and collective progress associated with the 75th anniversary celebrations.
