PM Modi Releases ₹100 Coin on National Technology Day
The Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi released a ₹100 commemorative coin and a postal stamp marking National Technology Day, the 25th Anniversary of Operation Shakti on May 11, 2023 at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.
The Union Minister for Defence, Shri Rajnath Singh and Union Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Shri Jitendra Singh were present on the occasion among others.
In his address, Shri Modi recalled the pride of the Pokhran nuclear tests, emphasising how they showcased India’s scientific strength. He highlighted India’s rapid progress in innovation—over 10,000 Atal Tinkering Labs, rising patent filings, a surge in tech incubators, and India’s rise to the world’s third-largest startup ecosystem. He stressed that technology must empower society, citing transformative initiatives like UPI, CoWIN, DigiLocker, and JAM.
The Prime Minister underscored the importance of guiding young innovators and preparing India to lead in emerging fields such as AI, drones, therapeutics, defence innovation, and space technology. He concluded by expressing confidence that National Technology Week will further accelerate India’s journey towards a Viksit and technology-driven future.
This release marks the 7th commemorative coin of the year 2023, minted by the India Government Mint, Mumbai. The bookings are expected to open soon on the India Government Mint's website and will be updated in the current and upcoming bookings section.
