President Murmu Releases ₹100 Coin on N.T. Rama Rao
The Hon'ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, released the ₹100 commemorative coin to mark the Birth Centennial Year of Shri Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao, popularly known as NTR today, on August 28, 2023 at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi.
The Rashtrapati Bhavan extended invitations to only 100 guests for the ceremony, including members of NTR’s family.
Speaking on the occasion, the President said that the late Shri N.T. Rama Rao made an indelible contribution to Indian cinema and cultural heritage through his remarkable body of work in Telugu films. She recalled how he brought iconic characters from the Ramayana and Mahabharata to life with unparalleled depth and devotion. His portrayals of Lord Rama and Lord Krishna became so vivid and enduring that generations of people began to revere and even worship him in these divine roles.
She further noted that beyond mythological characters, NTR gave voice to the struggles and aspirations of ordinary people. Through his film Manushulanta Okkate—meaning “All human beings are equal”—he conveyed a powerful message of social justice and equality, reflecting his deep sensitivity toward societal issues.
The President highlighted that NTR’s immense popularity extended far beyond cinema. As a public servant and leader, he created a remarkable chapter in Indian politics through his exceptional charisma, dedication, and visionary approach. His tenure as Chief Minister was marked by pioneering welfare initiatives that continue to be remembered and appreciated even today.
The President also commended the Ministry of Finance and the Government of India for issuing the commemorative coin in his honour. She said that NTR’s extraordinary personality, artistic brilliance, and public service will remain forever etched in the hearts of the people, especially the Telugu-speaking community.
The President said that NTR’s popularity was equally wide as a public servant and leader. He created a unique chapter in Indian politics through his extraordinary personality and hard work. He initiated many public welfare programs, which are remembered till today.
The President appreciated Ministry of Finance, Government of India for bringing the commemorative coin on NTR. She said that his unique personality would always be imprinted in the hearts of the people, especially the Telugu speaking people.
This release marks the 11th commemorative coin of the year 2023, minted by the India Government Mint, Hyderabad. The bookings are expected to open soon on the India Government Mint's website and will be updated in the current and upcoming bookings section.
