Shri J.P. Nadda Releases ₹75 Commemorative Coin on PMSMA

The Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda, released a ₹75 commemorative coin and a postage stamp to mark 10 Years of PMSMA today, June 9, 2026, in New Delhi.

The event marked a decade of the successful implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan (PMSMA), a flagship initiative of the Government of India aimed at providing quality antenatal care, ensuring safe pregnancies, and promoting healthy motherhood across the nation.

Smt. Anupriya Patel, Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare; Dr. Yvan J. F. Hutin, WHO Representative to India; Smt. Aradhana Patnaik, Additional Secretary and Mission Director, National Health Mission (NHM); Col. Akhilesh Kumar Pandey, Chief Postmaster General, Department of Posts; and Chief Medical Officers from various States were also present at the event.

Addressing the gathering, Shri J.P. Nadda described the completion of 10 years of PMSMA as a matter of pride for the nation and a reflection of the Government’s commitment to ensuring safe motherhood and healthy newborns. He noted that since its launch on 9 June 2016, the programme has significantly strengthened maternal healthcare by providing free, quality antenatal care through specialist doctors, with valuable support from private healthcare institutions and medical professionals.

Shri Nadda highlighted the importance of antenatal care and acknowledged the role of ASHA workers in supporting pregnant women. He also referred to the Extended PMSMA (E-PMSMA), launched in 2022, which enables closer monitoring of high-risk pregnancies through individual tracking and follow-up after delivery.

Highlighting India's progress in maternal and child health, he stated that the country has achieved substantial reductions in maternal, neonatal, and under-five mortality rates, earning global recognition. He further noted that institutional deliveries and antenatal care coverage have risen significantly over the years. The Union Health Minister expressed his appreciation to doctors, nurses, ASHAs, frontline healthcare workers, State Governments, development partners, and private-sector specialists for their contributions to the success of PMSMA.

This release marks the 9th commemorative coin of the year 2026, minted by the India Government Mint, Mumbai. The bookings for the Proof and UNC sets are expected to open soon on the official India Government Mint website and will be updated under the current and upcoming bookings section.
