Possible Themes on New Commemorative Coins for 2023

As we move ahead from 2022, There are few gazette notified commemorative coins of Shri Ram Chandra Ji (Lalaji), Raja Ram Mohan Roy, Jawaharlal Darda are scheduled to release in 2023. The much delayed Sri Satguru Ram Singh Ji coin may also see the light this year. Apart from these, there are few potential themes where possible commemorative coins could be released by the Government of India in 2023.

  • The 18th G20 Heads of State and Government Summit will take place on 9-10 September 2023 in New Delhi. The Summit will be a culmination of all the G20 processes and meetings held throughout the year among ministers, senior officials, and civil societies. A G20 Leaders’ Declaration will be adopted at the conclusion of the New Delhi Summit, stating Leaders’ commitment towards the priorities discussed and agreed upon during the respective ministerial and working group meetings. A possible ₹100 coin is expected to be issued to commemorate the event. 

  • International Year of Millets 2023
    The UN General Assembly adopted by consensus a resolution sponsored by India and supported by over 70 nations declaring 2023 as the International Year of Millets, aimed at raising awareness about the health benefits of the grain and their suitability for cultivation under changing climatic conditions. A commemorative coin looks promising in Oct 2023 though a ₹75 FAO coin was issued in 2020.
  • Birth Centenary of Shri N.T. Rama Rao
    On 28th May 2022, The year long celebrations started and NTR's daughter, former Union Minister Daggubati Purandeswari, said the centenary of her father, late NT Rama Rao, would be magnificent. The BJP senior leader stated that the image of late NTR will be on a 100-rupee coin very soon.

  • 150th Birth Anniversary of Vithalbhai Patel
    Vithalbhai Patel (27 September 1873 – 22 October 1933) was an Indian legislator and political leader, co-founder of the Swaraj Party and elder brother of Sardar Patel. A postal stamp was issued in 1973 marking his birth centenary. The event might be celebrated at Karamsad town in Anand district and a possible ₹150 coin is expected.
  • Birth Centenary of Kailashpati Mishra
    Kailashpati Mishra (5 October 1923 – 3 November 2012) was an Indian politician. He was a leader of Jana Sangh, and later Bharatiya Janta Party. He was Finance Minister of Bihar in 1977. He was Governor of Gujarat from May 2003 to July 2004. Government of India issued a postal stamp in his honour in 2016. 

  • Hyderabad State Liberation
    The government has announced a year-long event to mark 75 years of the liberation of Hyderabad state - the former princely state's merger with the rest of India. The event will be inaugurated on September 17, 2023. A commemorative coin or a postage stamp is possible.
