Raksha Mantri to Release ₹100 Coin on Kalaignar M. Karunanidhi

The Union Minister of Defence, Shri Rajnath Singh, is set to release the ₹100 commemorative coin on the occasion of the Birth Centenary of Kalaignar M. Karunanidhi on August 18, 2024, in Chennai.

The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Shri M. K. Stalin, and other important dignitaries will participate in this event organised by the Government of Tamil Nadu.

Shri Shivdas Meena, Chief Secretary of Tamil Nadu has issued an announcement regarding this matter. Among those invited are opposition leader and AIADMK General Secretary Shri Edappadi Palaniswami, BJP State President Shri Annamalai, TMC President Shri G. K. Vasan, as well as film celebrities Shri Rajinikanth and Shri Kamal Haasan.

Earlier, the Ministry of Finance had confirmed the issuance of the commemorative coin to honour the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu through a gazette notification on July 12, 2024.

This year, around eleven commemorative coins have been released so far, with confirmed commemorative coins for the '125th Birth Anniversary of Dr. Harekrushna Mahtab', '75 Years of Supreme Court of India', and '150 Years of Bombay Stock Exchange' as gazette notifications have already been issued. There are many other possible themes on which commemorative coins might be issued later this year or early next year.
